The Gin Gimlet

The history of this cocktail is probably not what you expect. Lime syrup was invented in 1867 as a way to preserve the citrus juice without it spoiling. British Navy officiers would use it as a means of fighting off scurvy, how ingenius. By the time the 20th century hit, this lime syrup ended up being mixed with the British favourite, gin, and the gimlet was born.

INGREDIENTS

  • 70ml Gin (or 2.5 oz)

  • 1/2 lime juiced (or lime cordial)

  • 14ml (.5 oz) simple syrup (equal parts water and sugar dissolved) *If you’re using cordial you don’t need the sugar

  • Ice

METHOD

Throw all the ingredients into a shaker and shake! The key to shaking is not shaking up and down. Shake out like you like you’re punching someone in the gut and then in the face. This will work your cocktail and self defence skills

Pour into a coupe glass or anything fancy you got and garnish with a thin slice of lime.

Refreshing, punchy, classy.
